About Us
Comins Community Church is part of the Body of Christ and each member is an integral component within His Body (I Corinthians 12:27). The church’s mission is to edify the saints (Ephesians 4:11-13), to encourage obedience to Christ and holy living, and to faithfully proclaim God’s Word, ever encouraging spiritual regeneration of the lost (John 1:12) and renewal in the life of the believer (Romans 12:1-2).
Statement of Faith |
The BibleWe believe the original texts of the sixty-six books of the Old and new Testaments are God-breathed and are truth, written by holy men who were chosen and equipped by God for this special task. We believe the Scriptures, errorless in the original documents, are divine authority in all matters which they address. The Bible is fully reliable in what it communicates and is the supreme authority for faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Revelation 22:18-19)
The Triune GodWe believe in the one and only true God who is Spirit. He is self-existent, infinite, personal, unchangeable, and eternal in His being. He is perfect in holiness, righteousness, love, justice, goodness, wisdom and truth. He is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. He is the creator and sustainer of all things, both visible and invisible. The one triune God exists and reveals Himself as three persons, as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We know these things by divine revelation as revealed in Scripture. (Genesis 1:1, 26-27; Exodus 2:2, 3; John 1:1-5, 4:24, 14:10-30; 16:7-13; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
ManWe believe that man was uniquely formed by God in His image and likeness. He was without sin, enjoyed fellowship with God, and was capable of full obedience to His will. He was created in order that he might glorify God and enjoy Him forever. We also believe that man was confronted with a moral choice in the garden and that by voluntarily transgressing God’s command, man lost his original condition, became physically, morally, intellectually and spiritually depraved, and was alienated from God. Because of this one man’s sin, the entire human race became guilty before God and deserving of the righteous judgment of God. Therefore, all men are sinners, are dead in their sins, and are unable to save themselves. We believe man is offered two eternal, conscious destinies – heaven for the righteous and hell for the unrighteous. (Genesis 1:27, 2-3
SalvationWe believe that God must and will punish sin because He is holy. This punishment must come either to the guilty person or to a satisfactory substitute. God provided means for salvation through Jesus Christ, who voluntarily offered Himself on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for sin so that all who believe in Him may be redeemed. We believe faith is essential to salvation. It is the means by which the Word of God is received as true. It is both the gift of God and the response of man. We also believe that repentance accompanies one’s faith, both at the time of salvation and in the ongoing life of the believer. Repentance is the turning away from one’s past sinful life. We believe justification and sanctification are works accomplished and ongoing in the life of one regenerated by God. We believe that every Christian can have a valid sense of assurance concerning salvation, his relationship with God, and his destiny. We believe in the bodily resurrection of Christ, and because He lives, we too shall live. At the return of Christ, the bodies of the righteous dead will be raised and will, with the living believers, be caught up to be with the Lord in the air. (John 14:6; Romans 6:23, 10:9-13, 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 15; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Hebrews 11:6; 1 John 1:8-10, 5:11-13)
The ChurchWe believe the Church, in its universal context as the body of Christ, is composed of all believers regardless of name, race, nation, or generation. The local church, as a part of that body, is composed of a group of believers in Christ who have voluntarily joined together and are devoted to one another in love, so that the church can fulfill its purpose and mission. The purpose of the Church is to glorify God. Its mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. Central to this mission is the proclamation of the Word of God for the equipping of each believer to become an effective witness so that the Church will grow to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 12:12-14; Ephesians 1:22-23, 5:25-27)
Final ThingsWe believe in the personal, visible and premillennial return of Christ. We believe Christ will return for His church in the clouds, the rapture of the church. We believe Christ will return a second time to set up His earthly millennial kingdom. We believe the believer’s works will be judged for rewards at the Bema Seat of Christ, the believer’s sins having been judged in Christ upon the cross. We believe those who have rejected the Scripture’s message of redemption will stand before the Great White Throne Judgment, where their name will not be found in the book of life and they will be forever separated from God. (2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 19:11-21, 20:1-6, 11-15)
